Richard Glinnen

Whole Note

The adults show the kids
How to wave goodbye
To the balloon
Rising past
The electrical wires,

For a moment,
A whole note
On an otherwise
Blank page
Of blue sheet music.

Grass

I follow white lines of bent grass
Up the hill, where a rider mower roams
A field, blanching wide circles,

While wheeling birds
Dampen the machine’s work
With shadows,
Returning to the grass
Its natural hue.
